This tour begins at the Historic District sign. It is approximately 1 mile in length, and makes a loop.
The Poplar Springs Road Historic District consists of residences belonging to Meridian’s prosperous businessmen, lawyers, doctors, and professionals of the pre-Depression era. We begin our tour at the sign marking the beginning of the Historic District.

2209 Poplar Springs Drive

Looking across the street, the first house on the block is house number 2209. The house was once inhabited by Henry R. Broach, of Carter and Broach Real Estimate and Insurance. The architectural style is Craftsman Bungalow, a style which is very common along this street.

2228 Poplar Springs Drive

2228 is the house on this side of the street with the fenced-in yard. This house was owned by Mayor William S. Smylie, Jr.

2300 Poplar Springs Drive

Farther along the street, next door to each other, are houses 2300 and 2304. These houses were both built around 1913, purportedly by two sisters.
